Luas drivers threatened with 10% pay cuts

The firm wrote to union Siptu and the drivers yesterday telling them it wished to re-engage on their pay claim and asking that strike action planned for tomorrow and next Wednesday be called off. The non-driver grades have already voted to accept increases in the region of 13% and will not engage in the future action.
However, talks with the driver grades broke down earlier this week, with Transdev saying they were demanding a 26.5% rise and that they were not conceding sufficient productivity in return for any increases. It questioned what continued action would achieve, what basis there was for a pay demand that started off at 53% and was still at 26.5%, and what salaries drivers had benchmarked the salaries against.
