Fundraiser for father-of-four from Cork after catastrophic stroke
Philip Scott, from Midleton, Co Cork, a former captain of Dolphin Rugby Club, was left with reduced vision, loss of movement in his right arm and leg, temporary memory loss, and an inability to speak or understand language in the wake of the stroke last January.
He was not expected to survive but defied the odds and made an unlikely return to his family in Midleton late last year after spending six months at Cork University Hospital and four months at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dublin.
His courage and determination earned him a bravery award last year from the Irish Heart Foundation.
This Wednesday, family and friends will gather at Dolphin RFC in Ballyphehane to announce fundraising plans as part of the Friends of Philip Scott Aphasia Fund.
His godfather and uncle Timmy Murphy, said while Philip was making good progress, he still has a long way to go.
“He still can’t formulate speech and while he can walk, his mobility is not what it was.
“We are hoping people will support the fundraisers.”
Philip’s son Brian is currently playing with Dolphin and is in the Munster Rugby Academy.
