Hozier scoops prestigious British music award
The 24-year-old’s smash hit Take Me to Church scooped the award for best song musically and lyrically at the Ivor Novello Awards which took place at London’s Grosvenor House.
The awards honour and reward excellence in British and Irish songwriting and composing.
Hozier, full name Andrew Hozier-Byrne, dedicated his award to his mother who is currently in hospital.
He said: “This is a huge deal to me. This time last year I was a complete unknown with a set of songs I’d written and recorded in my attic.”

He was up against Bear’s Den’s Above The Clouds Of Pompeii and I Forget Where We Were by Ben Howard.
It has been yet another hugely successful week for the Bray native who won two Billboard Music Awards, picking up top rock song for Take Me To Church as well as top rock artist.
At the end of last year, Take Me to Church was named as streaming service Spotify’s global “most viral song” as well as its biggest song in the world at that point.
