More than 200 Indian doctors working in the Irish health service continue to be ineligible for career-essential training posts despite treating patients on a daily basis, an anomaly repeatedly condemned by the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO).

The issue came to the fore again at the weekend when Indian doctor Suhas Jadhav appealed directly to Health Minister Leo Varadkar at the IMO AGM to help resolve a situation which prevents him and his colleagues from making any career progress.

Speaking at the non-consultant hospital doctors national meeting, Dr Jadhav told the minister: “You are discouraging many doctors like me staying in the system. I urgently ask you to see to this and give me justice.”
