Filmmaker hopes for breakthrough at Cannes
Bertie Brosnan, 29, from Tralee, has made it two-in-a-row as his latest work has been accepted for the short film corner at the prestigious event.
He and producer Brian O’Connor made it to Cannes last year with Jacob Wrestling With An Angel.
This time, the pair are confident their latest production, Sineater, will impress the judges.
“We’re much better prepared than last year and have learned from that experience. We’ve a very specific plan of action,” said Mr Brosnan.
“We’re aiming for worldwide distribution. Plenty of distributors will be there and we’ll be meeting them. Cannes was our first admission and our first acceptance, but there are over 50 film festivals and more of them might also be interested.”
The eight-minute film, which he described as a psychological thriller with a dark twist, was made entirely in Tralee and shot in just one long night.
Limerick-born actor Joe Mullins, who previously played in the acclaimed Pilgrim Hill, is in the lead role. Also prominent is Listowel actor Sean McGillycuddy.
