‘Frozen’ song tops most-watched list

A singing priest, a spider dog, and an ice bucket challenge gone wrong — no, it’s not the intro to one of the strangest novels ever; these are the subjects of this year’s most popular YouTube videos.

‘Frozen’ song tops most-watched list

Fr Ray Kelly became a social media sensation when his version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ went viral. When he performed the song at a wedding, the Westmeath priest had no idea it would be viewed more than 34m times only four weeks later.

His version was so good, in fact, he signed a deal with Universal and is working on his first album.

‘Chris and Leah Wedding’ is No 2 in the list of Ireland’s top videos of 2014, but has been bested by a sing-along version of ‘Let it Go’ from Disney animation Frozen.

Another rendition of ‘Let it Go’ comes eighth, this one featuring an irate two-year-old growing increasingly frustrated with her parents — she wants them to listen to her sing the song without laughing. Spoiler alert — they don’t.

Other top videos include ‘Look Up’, which pleads with the social media generation to look up from their phones and interact with people; a prankster who dressed a dog in a spider suit and let it loose on unsuspecting bystanders in Poland; and Teresina Bell’s ice bucket challenge — the unfortunate girl completes the challenge and then runs right into a pole.

The list of top 10 music videos viewed in Ireland in 2014 is largely dominated by females, with only three male artists securing a spot.

Katy Perry tops the list with ‘Dark Horse’, followed by Meghan Trainor, Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift, Sia, and Shakira.

The Vloggers list is topped by Swede Felix Kjellberg with his channel Pewdiepie.
