Weekend for juggling boat races and acts of kindness
In Courtmacsherry Bay, tides will favour the Strand Races on Sunday evening in the West Cork village. The first race is at 5.30pm.
The feature event of the eight-race card is the fourth of the evening, the Lislee Derby for the O’Donovan Brothers Perpetual Trophy.
Meanwhile, the world’s largest juggling and circus arts festival begins in Millstreet tomorrow.
The week-long European Juggling Convention attracts thousands of amateurs and professionals from across the world. Artists are arriving from the US, Australia, Germany, the UK, France, Holland, Argentina, and New Zealand.
In Cork City, the two-day Laya Healthcare City Spectacular — formerly the World Street Performance Championship — will be held in Fitzgerald Park.
Jugglers, acrobats, sword swallowers, and much more will all feature.
The festival is expanding throughout the city to include concerts, family picnics, artisan food events, and outdoor film screenings, encouraging thousands of people to enjoy the best of what Cork has to offer.
And to an event with a different: Clonakilty’s Random Acts of Kindness Festival. Over the weekend, a variety of kind events will be held throughout the town, including an al fresco party in Emmet Square tomorrow from 1pm-5pm, with live music from De Barras Folkclub, children’s entertainment, a food sharing event, and lots more.
It’s a not-for-profit festival, organised entirely by young people in the town. The festival’s motto is ‘cut the misery, spread the positivity’. Head to www.raokclon.com for more.
In Rockchapel, Co Cork, the Sliabh Luachra Summer School continues until July 25, with music classes and workshops.
A First World War exhibition opens in Dingle Library today and continues until August 1. Items on display include recruiting posters and a list of west Kerry people who died fighting in the war.
In Killarney, the Munster Fleadh Cheoil continues until Sunday with more than 3,000 musicians, dancers, and singers taking part in competitions.
Meanwhile, a yodel choir from Switzerland will sing at Masses in Ballyheigue tomorrow at 7.30pm and in Castleisland (11.30am), on Sunday.
Regarded as one of the best yodel choirs in the world, Jodlerklub Pilatus, from Lucerne, will sing devotional and popular Swiss folk pieces.
Volkswagen Beetle and Rover cars which are more than 40 years old feature in the Kerry Veteran and Vintage Car Club rally this evening.
It starts around 7pm at O’Riada’s Bar, Ballymacelligott, and takes in a circuit including Castleisland, Scartaglin, Ballydesmond, and Cordal.
