The latest in wearable technology - the handbag that takes pics

Famed for her witty handbags and accessories which are loved by the likes of Madonna and Jerry Hall, she has teamed up with the makers of the Autographer camera to produce a handbag that takes photographs.

The bag, which features the designer’s quirky eye print, comes with an Autographer camera fitted with sensors and software that judges when it should take snaps.

It automatically takes up to 2,000 pictures a day and can store up to 16,000 pictures. It also has a GPS locator so “where’s my handbag” becomes a thing of the past.

“I’ve always tried to push boundaries and looked to think outside the box with my designs,” said Lulu. “I have been following the growing interest in wearable technology within the fashion industry, so I am excited to partner with Autographer and take our first steps to merge the two with a touch of style and humour.”

The sensors detect the perfect time to take a snap depending on light, motion, direction, colour, and temperature.

There is no viewfinder or LCD display on the Autographer, meaning images have to be downloaded to a computer or viewed on a mobile phone.

The makers say its hands-free operation makes it the perfect accessory for the music festival season, but, with a price tag of €500 it’s hard to imagine too many of them being spotted at Oxegen or Electric Picnic.

The bag launches on July 30, both in-store and online. So, the next time your special someone barks: “buy me a handbag and make it snappy!” you could bag yourself a Guinness.
