Woman arrested in all-night party death probe
Brigid Bernadette Cash, 20, a mother of one, died after she suffered head injuries during an altercation at a party held at the house in Warrenstown Walk.
Ms Cash, a member of the Traveller community, was discovered at the house by Dublin Fire Brigade.
They had been called to the scene at around 10.30am after a neighbour was asked by other people to contact emergency services.
Ms Cash was already dead and a member of the fire brigade alerted gardaí, who arrived at the scene a few minutes later.
Officers sealed off the scene pending the arrival of the Garda Technical Bureau and the Deputy State Pathologist, Michael Curtis, who arrived a short time later to conduct an autopsy.
The woman arrested last night is believed to be in her 20s. She is being detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station and can be questioned for 24 hours.
It is understood Ms Cash’s two-year-old son was not at the scene at the time. Neighbours told gardaí established from talking to neighbours that a party had been held at the house, which belongs to the deceased’s mother, also named Bridget Bernadette Cash.
The party appeared to run from early the previous evening until well into the morning.
Detectives believe up to 10 people were in the semi-detached house during this period, perhaps coming to and going from the house at different stages.
Gardaí are trying to track down all those who were at the party, and are keen to talk to them. It is understood the deceased’s husband was not at the party and is not a person of interest to the investigation.
“There was a party there all night,” said a Garda source. “Obviously something happened, some kind of altercation.”
Gardaí suspect Ms Cash may have been assaulted but are not sure how she died and whether she may also have fallen.
They hope there will be more information following the autopsy.
