Cancer outreach service to open on northside
Cork ARC Cancer Support House, which offers free emotional support and practical help for cancer patients and their families, will offer the new service from the Niche Community Health Project offices in Knocknaheeny from Sept 9.
The drop-in service will operate every Monday from 9.30am to 3pm.
Cork ARC Cancer Support House is a voluntary organisation and registered charity, completely reliant on fundraising, and is based on O’Donovan Rossa Rd near UCC.
Its trained volunteers offer a listening ear and a range of services, including counselling, support groups, dedicated breast cancer service, therapeutic massage, reflexology, yoga, art therapy and t’ai chi.
All of its services are provided free of charge.
Last year, the house received some 4,000 visits from people affected by cancer.
“We are always keen to find new ways to support our visitors,” a spokesperson said.
“We have introduced guidance on benefits and social welfare entitlements which has proved to be of great benefit in these difficult times.
“Our most recent initiatives include our cancer support blog and our walking programme.”
The ARC outreach service will operate from the first floor of Niche’s offices on Foyle Avenue Rd in Knocknaheeny.
