Ms Holman Lee, in High Court papers, claims she broke a wrist in the fall in Nov 2011.

She said she has suffered other health problems and loss of earning as she was unable to work over a period of time as a result.

Ms Holman Lee said yesterday: “This is not the easiest situation, that’s for sure. I didn’t want to go down this road, but I’ve thought long and hard about it.

“I have never sued anyone in my life, ever ever, ever. I never needed to. This is a very sensitive case, but that’s life. I have worked and make a living as well. As you get older you need all your strength.”

Ms Holman Lee told the Limerick Leader that the fall occurred after she went to Flannery’s in Catherine St for a brief period after a fashion show to meet her husband, Ger. She said she did not have anything to drink at the time.

Ms Holman Lee would not speak about a possible damages amount, as this was a matter for her solicitor and the court.

She said: “For the job I have, if I don’t have 100% health constantly, I don’t earn a penny. I don’t have any sick leave. If I can’t work or do a job, I don’t have a shilling. We’re self-employed.”

Ms Holman Lee is being represented by Limerick solicitor Frances Twomey, and Mr Flannery’s bar is being represented by Dublin firm Bluebell.

Ms Holman Lee set up her model agency 33 years ago and is now a national figure through her appearances on TV.

She was recently named style icon of the year.

She has 25 models on her books.
