Watch: David Clifford scores 0-11 as Fossa pull off comeback to beat Gneeveguilla

David Clifford scored four two-pointers as Fossa won their Kerry IFC opener

Fossa came from eight points down at stages to defeat Gneeveguilla 1-28 to 1-17 in their Kerry Intermediate Football Championship opener at Fitzgerald Stadium. 

Gneeveguilla led 0-9 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. They went in five points up at the break and again extended their lead to eight points with a goal shortly after the restart. 

David Clifford was key in Fossa's comeback, scoring 0-11 in all, including four two-pointers.

"I know it was a win, but you're still never happy to be going down 9-1, but thankfully we kind of rallied," Clifford told Clubber TV.

"And then they got another two just before half-time which was a bit of a sickener, but thankfully we stayed at it and the chances came our way."

Gneeveguilla are a County League Division 1 team while Fossa are in Division 3.

"I probably didn't think of it like that," said Clifford.

"But in fairness, the boys have done Trojan work all year. Maybe they weren't getting results, but they were trying to put a good structure in place so that we come and slot back in, so thankfully we saw a bit of that today."

Clifford added: "I suppose we look forward to coming back. I know there's a lot of talk about the split season. The one, definitely the beauty of it is you get to put all your eggs into the Kerry basket and then all your eggs into the Fossa basket."
