West End star flies in to meet Cork’s Little Fighters
The “first lady” of musical theatre, Rebecca Storm said she was so touched by the remarkable story of the Benhaffaf twins from Carrigtwohill in Co Cork, that she wanted to help them in any way she could.
So when she learned she would be performing one of her most famous roles in the global smash hit musical, Blood Brothers, in the twins’ hometown next month, she seized the opportunity.
Storm, who plays the iconic Mrs Johnstone in the musical, jetted into Cork recently to meet Hassan and Hussein and their mother, Angie to discuss how she could help.
And it was confirmed last night that collections will be taken up during every performance during Blood Brothers’ three-week run at Cork Opera House for the Little Fighters Fund.
Willie Russell’s Blood Brothers is an epic tale of Liverpool life.
It tells the moving story of twin boys separated at birth, only to be reunited by a twist of fate and a mother’s haunting secret.
Its memorable score includes A Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.
It has been running in London’s West End since July 1988 and touring Britain since 1995.
It has been hailed as one of the best musicals of all time and has scooped four awards for best musical in London, and seven Tony Award nominations on Broadway.
The show arrives in Ireland following sell out seasons in the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Japan and will be staged at Cork Opera House for three weeks from August 2 to 20.
Tickets range in price from €26 with family ticket deals ranging from €80 to €110.
