KERRY Airport, supported by political, business and tourism interests in the county, is to step up its campaign to have the subsidised service on the Kerry to Dublin route restored in July.

This follows a decision by the airport company to make 20 of the 65 airport staff redundant in the wake of “massive” revenue loss resulting from a decision by Ryanair to withdraw from the subsidised service last November.

Since Ryanair pulled out of the public service obligation (PSO) contract — a government subsidy to regional air services — the airline has been providing just one daily flight on the route instead of three.
