THE Road Safety Authority has urged motorists to take extra care when driving abroad due to fears about the growing incidence of Irish citizens killed in foreign roadaccidents.

Recent figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs revealed that up to 240 Irish citizens died abroad in 2009 – a 20% increase on the previous year – which included a number who had died in road collisions.

Since 2007 alone, at least 12 Irish people were killed in car crashes in Australia.
