Woman faces charge following stabbing death
The man died during a knife attack at his home at Pairc Gleann Trasna, Aylesbury in Tallaght, west Dublin at around 7.20pm last Friday.
The deceased, named locally as Paul Byrne, is thought to have suffered a number of knife wounds.
Mr Byrne, 48, was found by gardaí after they were called to investigate a disturbance at the home.
Emergency services arrived at the house and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The house was immediately sealed off pending a forensic examination.
Mr Byrne’s body remained at the house overnight and was taken away early on Saturday morning for a post-mortem examination.
A woman was arrested at the home and taken to Tallaght Garda Station for questioning. She was held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardaí said they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the investigation.
A Garda spokesman said a 36-year-old woman was due to appear this morning at Dublin District Court to be charged in relation to the incident.
Locals said that Mr Byrne, originally from Dún Laoghaire in south Dublin, had lived by himself at the house.
It is understood he was due to attend his niece’s 21st birthday party on the night he was killed.
He worked as an engineer for RPS Group Ltd, which is based in Blessington, Co Wicklow.
Locals were deeply shocked by Mr Byrne’s violent death. Neighbours described him as a “gentleman”, who would go out of his way to help people.
