Gardaí appeal for public help in alleged sex attack probe
The incident is said to have happened early on Monday in the Rock Street/Connolly Park area where a woman in her early 20s claimed to have been assaulted by a man. Gardaí have asked anyone who may have been in the area between 4.30am and 6.30am on Monday to come forward.
CCTV footage is also being examined as part of the probe.
Investigations are also continuing into a vicious assault on a man in his mid-30s at about 1.20am on Wednesday, in Tralee centre.
His faced was slashed with a broken bottle and needed a large number of stitches.
He is being treated at Cork University Hospital where his condition has been described as comfortable.
Upwards of 30 people, male and female, witnessed the brawl at the top of Denny Street, which was packed with festival revellers at the time. About 15 gardaí were called to the scene and the injured man was removed to hospital.
Both incidents occurred during the annual Rose of Tralee Festival, which had fewer public order incidents and assaults than in other years, according to Gardaí.
Crowds were also reported to be up at the festival, which had a revamped street entertainment programme, called Back to Basics.
Publicans and local businesses contributed €100,000 to fund the entertainment on five stages around the town.
Meanwhile, festival chief executive Anthony O’Gara said plans are already being drafted for next year’s event, the 50th.
“We’re promising people a party like they have never seen before,” he said.
