THE bosses of the country’s biggest banks may be summoned before an Oireachtas committee in September to answer questions about their financial health and lending practices.

It comes after members of the joint committee on finance criticised a previous meeting with lower-ranked bank officials as “unsatisfactory”.

Last month, senior executives from AIB, Bank of Ireland, Permanent TSB and Anglo Irish Bank appeared before the committee to discuss issues in the banking sector, including lending policy and money supply.
