A NEW super-authority is to assume responsibility for implementing the Government’s €14 billion programme to improve public transport services in the greater Dublin region.

Super-authority to run capital’s public transport programme

Transport Minister Martin Cullen announced details yesterday of the new Dublin Transport Authority which, he said, would take charge of delivering key projects in the capital, including the Metro, a rail tunnel and extension of the Luas. He promised the DTA would be given all the necessary powers to ensure such projects were delivered on time and on budget.

The DTA will take over control of traffic management and strategic transport planning as well as regulating bus, rail and tram fares in Dublin. It will also be responsible for speeding up plans to introduce integrated ticketing across the various transport modes in the city.
