Battle lines drawn over quarry proposal

BATTLE lines have been drawn between a Co Limerick community and a company planning to open a 120-acre limestone quarry.

As the deadline for objections closes today hundreds of opponents have come out against the planned quarry.

Local politicians have assured objectors they have their support.

The quarry would be located at Ferrybridge, near the village of Kildimo.

Tom Fitzgerald of the Ferrybridge Action Group said yesterday: “If this was to go ahead we would have blasting and as this is limestone land, this would affect houses in the area and the value of property.”

A spokesman for the developer, Michael Cunningham said yesterday he could understand local concerns at the project. However, he said the pre-planning process involved a study of environmental issues facing the site, and “mitigation measures” have been proposed against any impact.
