FARMERS in an area of West Limerick plagued by health scares are angry they have been refused a breakdown of the €5.32 million spent on an enquiry into the problem.

The four-year EPA-led inquiry angered residents in Askeaton as it failed to find any conclusive reasons for animal and human health problems.

Locals claim cancer rates are three times above the national average in parts of the region and hundreds of animals have died in suspicious circumstances over the last decade. The farmers want the financial information to ensure there was no conflict of interest by the State.
