‘Doo Little’ goes a long way for Caroline

THE enticing tones of Marilyn Monroe entertained the crowds gathered on the Band Lawn at the Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horse Show yesterday with ‘Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend’.

But even the blonde icon couldn’t compete with “Eliza Doo Little” and “My Fair Lady“, which provided the inspiration for the black and cream ensemble that won the top fashion award on Ladies Day for Caroline Kirk, 25, an interior designer from Sandymount, Dublin.

Caroline said she and a friend were watching the hit musical one night and decided to design an outfit for “Eliza” as a bit of fun.

Caroline, wearing the dress, with a black hat designed by John Tyrrell and matching accessories, walked away with a glittering €10,000 Appleby Dublin diamond at the show.

“I am astonished, especially as I came late,” she gasped, after being chosen for the glittering prize by judges P J Gibbons, Social and Personal editor and Irish Examiner columnist; Eileen Goold, Appleby Dublin; Louis Copeland; and Melanie Power, ‘Colour Me Beautiful’.

Mr Gibbons described Caroline’s winning outfit as a classic style, with very good co-ordination, one of the features sought by the judges.

Orla Gilbourne, Terenure Road West, Dublin, in a Pia Bang jacket in blues and green with off white trousers, took the second placed prize, with another Dublin lady Dawn Maye, Stepaside, taking third prize in a lime-green outfit with flowers bought in Marbella.

Best dressed man, Neil Watt, Cookstown, Co Tyrone, won a Louis Copeland suit, while Dr Jennylynd James, Glasnevin, a food scientist from Trinidad and Tobago, took the award for the most creative hat, a colourful design that matched her flame coloured dress.
