87% with depression don’t tell employer

ALMOST nine out of 10 people suffering from depression give a fictitious diagnosis to their boss, a new survey has found.

The preliminary research findings, announced yesterday at the launch of Depression Awareness Week, found the number of people who disclosed their illness to their employers dropped by more than 30% over the past decade.

The results show the workplace less tolerant of mental health problems - 87% of those with depression reported giving a false diagnosis to their employer.
