Court access fight
The Multiple Sclerosis Society has hit out at the lack of access facilities for people with various physical disabilities at the courthouse in Tralee.
Access to the 170-year-old building is continuing to cause problems, as was highlighted recently when an elderly woman had to be stretchered down the steps to a waiting ambulance.
The woman was sitting in the public gallery when she collapsed during a case in the Circuit Court.
Meanwhile, the Court Services have confirmed they are in talks with Dúchas about extending facilities at the courthouse, including wheelchair access and more office space.
A spokesperson for the services said the work would have to be done in a very sensitive way to preserve the building.
The Kerry MS Society has described the current situation as a “disgrace” as wheelchair users have no access to the courts unless they are lifted up and down the steps.
