As the fall-out from the Flood inquiry filtered through to the gathered press, even the Teflon Taoiseach must have wished he had followed his father into farming instead of ploughing his own furrow in politics.

“My father ploughed until he was about 80 years of age in All Hallow’s College. He ploughed with the two horses. I can claim I tried to assist him, I don’t think though I was much good to him. It might be an easier job, but I suppose all jobs are hard,” he said.
