There are “unacceptable delays” in the examination of digital devices in child abuse investigations, despite calls for an “urgent review” of the area more than three years ago, according to the Garda Inspectorate.

Irish people need to be more guarded in their social media activities, and businesses are not investing enough in their IT security, one of the Garda’s top cyber crime detectives has warned.

The country’s largest supermarket group has reassured customers after it was targetted in a cybercrime attack aimed at extracting credit and debit card details.

Government is pressing ahead with construction of an €80m Garda headquarters. It is part of an ambitious, nationwide plan to build and refurbish Garda stations.
