Dear Dáithí: 'I was berated for being a single mum by another parent in the playground'

This might happen again with this woman. She will keep acting like this until someone sets her straight.
Dear Dáithí: 'I was berated for being a single mum by another parent in the playground'

Got a problem? Our agony uncle, Dáithí Ó Sé, is here to help. Picture: Domnick Walsh

Dear Dáithí, I am a single mum of two boys, aged six and four. Their father is not on the scene. I have strong family support and my boys regularly see their uncles and male cousins. I’m telling you this because I think it is important for you to know the context.

We were at the playground after school and there were some boys there from the school. They were being very boisterous and loud. The mums were at the coffee stand and ignoring it all. I tried to move my boys a couple of times from the area where the rough and tumble was going on. I don’t mind normal play but these boys were throwing a ball as hard as they could at each other. Then one of them who is bigger than both my boys threw the ball at my six- year-old and he started crying.
