Steve Coogan to return to Dublin production of Dr Strangelove after illness

Celebrated actor Steve Coogan is set to return to the stage at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for the production of Dr Strangelove following a short illness.

The seven-time BAFTA Award winner who is recovering from laryngitis was forced to pull out of the stage production of Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Dr Strangelove at the theatre on Thursday.

Ticket holders received a text message on Thursday evening to inform them of the actor’s illness and that he would not perform in that same evening’s production.

Actor Ben Deery, known for his role in And Then There Were None, A Street Cat Named Bob and Baldur's Gate III, replaced Coogan on stage while he recovered.

Ticket holders were advised that refunds for Thursday's performance will be made available at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre before 5pm on Monday, February 17.

Bord Gáis Energy Theatre advised ticket holders on Friday that Coogan, who has been appearing in the first-ever adaptation of Kubrick’s work since it opened on February 5, would be appearing in all other performances of Dr Strangelove apart from Monday, February 17 at 7.30pm and Thursday, February 20 at 2.30pm.

A memo posted on the theatre’s website on Friday read: “Performance schedule and times are subject to change and may be affected by illness or events beyond the producers’ or venues’ control.

Performers, dates, times, prices, and fees are subject to change without notice.”
