Kneecap set to play Dublin gig at the end of this year

Kneecap have built up a notoriety for themselves which hasn't been seen in Irish music for many years.

West Belfast rap trio Kneecap have announced that they will be taking to the stage at the 3Arena later this year.

Kneecap have built up a notoriety for themselves which hasn't been seen in Irish music for many years, merging Irish with English, satire with socially conscious lyrics, and reality with absurdity.

The trio - Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí - will perform at the 3Arena in Dublin on December 17.

Presale will take place from 10am on Wednesday, January 29 and general sale will take place at 10am Friday, January 31.

“Dublin….we are in your 3Arena on December 17th,” they posted on Instagram.

Taking to the social media platform yesterday, they expressed their disappointment that the Rich Peppiatt-directed music biopic based on the rap trio did not pick up any nominations for an Oscars Award.

Kneecap had been tipped for a nomination for Best International Feature Film and Best Original Song for the rap trio's track Sick in the Head - but it was not to be.

The film recently received six nominations for this year’s British Academy of Film and Television Film Awards and won an Audience Award at the renowned Sundance Film Festival in Utah last year, marking the first Irish feature film to win at the festival since John Carney’s ONCE in 2007.

While disappointed that the film based on their story didn’t score an Oscar nomination, they look forward to focusing on their music - with a string of upcoming gigs.

They will play Cork’s City Hall in February, New Zealand and Australia throughout March, Denver and Salt Lake City in April, London in May, and Dublin in June.
