Disappointment as Kneecap 'snubbed' in 2025 Oscar nominations

Music biopic Kneecap based on the rap trio of the same name has missed out on an Oscar nomination.
Kneecap has missed out on an Oscar nomination, sparking disappointment from fans of the music biopic.
The 2025 Oscar nominations were announced from Los Angeles on Thursday.
The Rich Peppiatt-directed music biopic had been tipped to pick up nominations for Best International Feature Film and Best Original Song for the West Belfast rap trio's track Sick in the Head, but it was not to be.
Emilia Pérez led this year's Oscars field ahead of Wicked and The Brutalist which both scored 10 nominations.
With 13 nominations, Emilia Pérez has become the most nominated foreign film in Oscar history.
There were also good showings for Conclave and A Complete Unknown which both scored eight nominations.
Fans of Kneecap took to social media following the announcement to express their disappointment, describing the Kneecap snub as “insane”.
“Kneecap didn’t get the international nomination at the Oscars. such a shame,” one fan wrote on X.
“Well there goes that dream. The academy will never be as cool as Kneecap,” another wrote.
Other fans were quick to point out the “sweeping nominations” for both Emilia Perez and The Brutalist, saying Kneecap was “robbed” of a nomination.
The nominations for Best International Film were I’m Still Here (Brazil), The Girl with the Needle (Denmark), Emilia Pérez (France), The Seed of the Sacred Fig (Germany) and Flow (Latvia).
The nominations for Best original song were El Mal from Emilia Pérez, The Journey from Six Triple Eight, Like a Bird from Sing Sing, Mi Camino from Emilia Pérez, and Never Too Late from Never Too Late.
This year's ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 2 and will be hosted by Conan O'Brien who will be taking over from Jimmy Fallon.
