Department announces hazardous waste collections for September and October
The services of a waste management company have been procured to manage the collection, removal and disposal of the waste.
Co Cork farmers will be able to avail of a hazardous waste collection in Clonakilty in October, organised as part of the National Hazardous Waste Management Plan.
It is the last of a series of collections which will start in the Ballybofey and Stranorlar Cooperative Livestock Mart in Co Donegal, on Wednesday, September 2.
Other locations and dates are at the Ardee Livestock Sales, Castlebellingham, Co Louth, on Wednesday, September 23; and Ballinasloe Co-Op Mart in Co Galway on Tuesday, September 29.
In the Midlands, collections have been organised at Gowran Park Racecourse in Co Kilkenny on Wednesday, October 14, and at Punchestown Racecourse in Co Kildare on Wednesday, October 21.
The series of events is completed at the Clonakilty Showgrounds in West Cork on Wednesday, October 28. All of the hazardous waste collection events will be open from 9am to 4pm.
They are organised by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment. Similar farm hazardous waste collection days took place in 2024 and 2025.
The services of a waste management company have been procured to manage the collection, removal and disposal of the waste. Farmers who avail of the service will pay a fee directly to the waste management company for the service.
The fee (excluding VAT) per kg for waste which farmers bring to the collection events ranges from €0.20 for waste oil to €6/kg for corrosives, brake fluid, grease, adhesives, aerosols, and materials classed as persistent organic pollutants.
The fee is €1.20/kg for paint (hazardous or non-hazardous) and for oil filters or drums, €3.50/kg for veterinary medicines (doses, dips, wormers, dry tubes, sharps, glass bottles, of injectable medicines) and €4.50/kg for pesticides and biocides (including wood preservatives, rodenticides).
