The farm is located 2.5km east of the village of Castlelyons in East Cork, and 10km from Fermoy.

Located just 2.5km east of the village of Castlelyons in East Cork, and 10km from Fermoy, a 26-acre top-quality land parcel in the townland of Ballyhamsherry will of keen interest to any number of the progressive farmers in the area.

This part of the country has long been a hot spot in the farmland market, with its proximity to large markets in Cork City and the heady mixture of farming activities that go on here.

The dominant sector is dairying but there are plenty of beef and tillage farmers in the area, and there is a very important equestrian sector operating here, with interest at both National Hunt and thoroughbred levels.

“It’s all in one field,” says selling agent Michael Barry of Fermoy-based Dick Barry & Son. “It’s divided into grazing paddocks for horses and it’s well-fenced — there’s a natural ditch but also equine fencing dividing it up. It’s a very attractive piece of ground… you wouldn’t get too many of that kind of property coming up anywhere.

“I would expect that it will interest dairy farmers, as well as a lot of hobby farmers who might want to relocate… the land is as good as you’re going to get anywhere, so it will suit all sectors. And then you have the location and road frontage.”

With a similar property having recently reached over €30,000/acre at auction just over the road, Mr Barry says it is not unreasonable to expect this parcel should make in the region of €25,000/acre.
