Rare 22-acre holding on Cobh island blends quality and coastline

A 22.3-acre land parcel new to the market with Cork-based auctioneers Cohalan Downing represents a rare appearance in the land market for a holding on the island of Cobh.

The property is in the townland of Ballyellane on the north side of the land-bridged island — the side facing the mainland of the Rebel County.

Access to the holding is via a right of way which is clear and uncomplicated, according to the selling agent Malcolm Tyrell.

Its northern boundary features a substantial length of seafront and the current owners are moving on and looking to dispose of the lands.

It is currently all in grass but the farm has seen several uses, including market gardening, according to Malcolm.

“When they bought it over 30 years ago, they used to grow a lot of vegetables there,” says Malcolm. “It was a number of small fields, which they then opened up into the one large field it is in the present holding.”

There have been a good number of enquiries so far, mainly from local sources and the price guide is quoted at a very reasonable €300,000 (€13,600/acre).
