Minister invites public to air climate change views
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has invited members of the public to contribute to a public consultation process on a draft Climate Change Adaptation Plan in the agriculture, forest and seafood sector.
The draft Adaptation Plan, which is available at www.agriculture.gov.ie, highlights a number of case studies identifying how the sector has and will continue to be impacted by changing weather patterns and steps towards building resilience. The closing date for suggestions is Friday, August 16.
Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed, said: “We have very much taken a joined up approach to adaptation planning across the Department and have prepared a single plan covering the agriculture, forest and seafood sector.”
The Minister said, in addition to reducing emissions, Ireland needs to ensure its food production system is resilient and ready to adapt to future climate risk.
“Climate change is not just an issue for the primary producer; it is something that everyone in the production chain needs to consider,” said Minister Creed.
A questionnaire will help people respond to the consultation. The consultation will be open for the next seven weeks.
