Talks begin on future role of Macra na Feirme
Macra says these will set out the key areas of focus, broad areas of activity and priorities the next five to seven years.
It will involve consultation and engagement with members, associate members, sponsors, funders and other stakeholders.
A consultancy team — jointly led by Ciaran Lynch, community engagement partners, and Dr Pat Bogue of Broadmore Research — has been appointed to help develop the plan, expected to be completed by May.
Chief executive Denis Duggan said the body has always been a strong voice for rural Ireland but it can even be stronger with a strategic plan. National president Sean Finan said he believed the plan will set out a viable roadmap for Macra so that it can continue working for the needs of young farmers and rural youth.
Venues and dates for the consultative meetings are: Charleville Park Hotel (Jan 30), The Abbey, Roscommon (Feb 6), City North Hotel, Meath (Feb 9) and Granville Hotel, Waterford (Feb 15).
Past members are also welcome to attend.
