Flanagan elected president of EAAP
Mr Flanagan takes over the prestigious position in January and will serve as president for a four-year term.
His election is a particular honour for Teagasc and Ireland.
A former vice-president of the EAAP and chairman of its scientific committee, Jim Flanagan is only the second Irish person to be elected president.
The position was previously held by Professor Patrick Cunningham, Trinity College and formerly Assistant Director of the Agricultural Institute. The EAAP is involved in the promotion of research in all areas of animal production, animal welfare and environmental protection.
It sponsors a wide range of specialised meetings and studies, and also publishes an official scientific journal and a series of scientific publications.
It organises an annual meeting for all 40-member State organisations.
As part of Jim Flanagan’s presidency, Ireland is planning to host the annual meeting in 2007. Ireland is formally represented on the EAAP by the Department of Agriculture and Food.
