Safety crackdown

Health and Safety Authority inspections this year will concentrate on machinery, child safety, livestock handling and working at heights.

Tommy O’Sullivan, Senior Agriculture Inspector, HSA, said a key aims is to radically increase the number of farms with safety statements.

“By law, all farms must have a safety statement in place. The safety statement identifies the hazards on a farm and spells out the steps that need to be taken to reduce these risks. In 2003, we will be ensuring that this important measure is complied with in the farming sector”.
