Ploughing event to attract 100,000
It will take place in Ballinabrackey, Kinnegad, on September 23, 24 and 25 on the neighbouring farms of Mark Moore and George Cave.
Education and Science Minister Noel Dempsey has already launched the promotional brochure for the event.
Preparing to bring the championships to Meath for the first time, Gerry Baker, National Ploughing Association (NPA) president and Trim native, said it will put Ballinabrackey on the map.
NPA managing director Anna May McHugh said that the reaction to the Meath venue was very positive.
“Ballinabrackey is a very central venue and that is an important consideration for exhibitors and competitors,” she said.
Mrs McHugh said the ploughing hype is getting earlier every year. Telephones were hopping with enquiries about trade stands, accommodation, the programme of events and general queries.
While primarily agricultural, the exhibition will have a very extensive range of plant machinery, an auto arena, a forestry village, home, garden and leisure stands, a livestock section and a huge indoor trade arena.
Over 300 ploughing competitors have qualified from all over the country to test the soil in Meath for the first time.
