In his letter (Irish Examiner, December 24) Joe Brennan calls the EU, in which nearly 30 democracies signed a treaty to cooperate in matters of mutual interest, a ‘disdainful and ailing European Union’.

Margaret Hickey’s version of the history of Christianity ( Irish Examiner, December 18) was not a version I would have chosen.
A few years ago Vincent Browne made a series of programmes in which he took a gratuitous sideways swipe at Christianity by the simplistic device of taking the Old Testament out of context and by ignoring it’s crucial understanding in terms of the New Testament.
I do not blame them one little bit...the banks, I mean.
