Law firm Matheson has expanded its Energy, Infrastructure and Construction (EIC) group, as it anticipates further growth in these sectors.

The EIC group brings together the firm’s leading energy, natural resources, utilities, projects, infrastructure, construction and engineering practice areas into a single, dedicated group.

Matheson’s EIC Group comprises a core team of 16 lawyers, led by four partners. This team is supported by a wider group of specialists from across the firm, aligning all phases of client projects.

Led by partner Garret Farrelly, the EIC group comprises two specialist teams — Energy, Natural Resources and Utilities and Infrastructure and Construction.

Mr Farrelly works closely with Owen Collins, partner, on the Energy, Natural Resources and Utilities team, while the Infrastructure and Construction team is led by Conor Blennerhassett, partner, and has recently been strengthened by the appointment of fellow partner Mary Liz Mahony.

Garret Farrelly said he was pleased to have expanded the EIC team with the recent appointment of Mary Liz Mahony, ensuring that the group is ideally placed to meet the evolving needs of clients.

He added: “By delivering consistently excellent client service over many years, Matheson has successfully positioned itself at the forefront of the energy, infrastructure and construction sectors.

“The Irish Government is providing unprecedented policy and legislative support for the construction of large-scale public infrastructure, housing and sustainable developments, and has also recognised that future residential and commercial development in Ireland depends on the provision of appropriate infrastructure to service it. Our clients are at the forefront of this trend.”

The combined two teams within the EIC group offer dedicated advice on the development, operation, financing, purchase, sale and regulatory aspects of large-scale energy, infrastructure and construction projects.

Darren Maher, Matheson managing partner, said: "Ireland's energy, infrastructure and construction sectors are experiencing sustained growth, driven by offshore wind, data-centre investment, major public infrastructure programmes and unprecedented demand for housing delivery.

“In response, we have established the largest dedicated team of its kind in the Irish market ensuring our clients receive fully integrated advice from a team that has built real expertise across all stages of these projects."
