British MPs to quiz Jaguar bosses over factory axe
Bosses from Jaguar will be quizzed by British MPs today over the controversial decision to end production of the luxury car in Coventry.
Chief executive Joe Greenwell and other executives will appear before the UK's Trade and Industry Select Committee to be questioned about the move, which will cost 1,150 jobs.
Production of the XJ saloon and XK sports car will be transferred to Castle Bromwich, while the Browns Lane site in Coventry will retain its wood veneer facility.
Since the announcement was made in mid September unions have launched a campaign to retain car production in Coventry and have warned of further job cuts if the decision is not reversed.
A huge rally will be held in Coventry later this month to protest at the decision and unions have been pressing the British government to intervene.
Workers have warned that ending production of Jaguar cars would “rip the heart” out of Coventry after the plant became a symbol of the city’s successful regeneration after the Blitz.
