BRITISH SUGAR is building a processing plant in Norfolk that will use sugar beet and other feedstocks to produce biofuels.

British Secretary of State for Environmental, Food and Rural Affairs David Miliband mentioned the project at the Oxford Farming Conference when urging British farmers to see climate change as an opportunity and not just a threat.

His remarks will be studied with interest in Ireland where there have been repeated calls for the production of ethanol at the closed sugar processing plants in Carlow and Mallow.
