The chief executive of Limerick Chamber has resigned after seven months since stepping into the role.

Donnacha Hurley has announced he will leave the organisation to return to the hospitality sector, taking up the role of General Manager at the Strand Hotel in Limerick.

Mr Hurley had joined Limerick Chamber as Chief Executive in March after the previous CEO Michelle Gallagher resigned.

Donnacha Hurley said he "greatly valued the opportunity to lead Limerick Chamber" and to work with its team, board and members.

"Hospitality has been an important part of my career, and the opportunity to return to the sector as General Manager of the Strand Hotel is one I am very excited to take up.

"I am grateful for my time with Limerick Chamber and wish the team, Board and members every success for the future.

"The Chamber’s senior leadership team will manage day-to-day operations during the transition, with oversight from the Board," Mr Hurley said.

Before joining the Chamber, Mr Hurley served as General Manager of the Absolute Hotel in Limerick, a role he held for 17 years.

A long-standing contributor to the Limerick Chamber, he previously served on its board, chaired the policy committee, and held the role of President in 2021/2022.

A spokesperson for the Limerick Chamber said they will consider the Chamber’s longer-term leadership arrangements and communicate further in due course.

In January, the previous CEO Michelle Gallagher resigned after just over a year in the role.

She had joined the business group in September 2024, succeeding Dee Ryan, who had stepped down to run in the Limerick mayoral election the previous summer.
