Aquaculture grant aid announced

THE Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, John Browne, has announced grant aid of €13.3 million for several aquaculture projects.

A total of 41 private projects, made up of 28 Shellfish and 13 finfish projects will benefit from the aid.

The projects cover a range of activities like development of new species, expansion and modernisation of salmon and trout farms together with expansion of shellfish farm facilities. Mr Browne said it was very important to diversify into new species and invest in technologies, which will underpin growth in Irish aquaculture.
