John Whelan: Ireland's tech sector shrugs off recent setbacks and job cuts to face into next challenge

Shrugging off the wide-ranging challenges of higher interest rates threatening consumer demand, political pressure to open key trade secrets, and data protection regulations, the technology sector has made a remarkable comeback so far this year.

Faced with the slump in global demand and profits last year, the technology sector, particularly the large corporations such as Google, Apple, and Facebook, announced reductions to their global workforces during 2022. The majority of these global firms have a significant presence in Ireland.
