Sophie Wessex flown to hospital

Britain's Countess of Wessex has been airlifted to hospital from her Surrey home.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, was rushed to hospital by air ambulance and underwent an emergency operation, Buckingham Palace says.

It is believed she suffered an ectopic pregnancy.

Her condition at London's King Edward VII Hospital has been described as comfortable following the operation.

Surgeons at the hospital performed an emergency operation and the Countess’s condition was later described as ‘‘comfortable’’.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the specific nature of Sophie’s operation.

A Palace spokeswoman said: ‘‘Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex is currently recovering in the Kind Edward VII Hospital following an emergency operation today.

‘‘The Countess was taken to hospital by air ambulance this morning after feeling unwell overnight.

‘‘She is expected to stay in hospital for the next few days.

‘‘The Earl of Wessex has been with the Countess following her operation.’’

The spokeswoman added: ‘‘I cannot comment on the nature of the operation - this is medical in confidence. However, her condition is described as comfortable.’’
