Hook called to bar after radio bet
The rugby pundit and radio show host had gambled a pint with TD Conor Linehan that Finance Minister McCreevy couldn't bring Government public spending down to 14% before the end of the year.
But, George was left licking his wounds and counting his pennies when Lenihan came to collect.
"I told him at the time of the estimates there was no way McCreevy could do it. But he got it to 13.99% so I have to buy this pint," Hook said.
The pair adjourned to Smyths pub on Haddington Road yesterday afternoon where George had to fork out 3.70 to buy former political reporter Lenihan a pint of Guinness.
Lenihan admitted that he wasn't too confident when agreeing to the bet on Hook's radio show "The Right Hook" on Newstalk 106 FM last month A bloodied but defiant Hook was getting nervous that Lenihan might even demand a second pint after his sensational win: "He's got through three quarters of it already, I might just have to get him another."
Lenihan though was happy with one and he insisted that "Hook is man who always honours his bets."
