Evan Ferguson an unused sub as Evanilson scores twice to earn Bournemouth draw at West Ham

Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen looked to have answered their manager’s pre-match rallying cry to not let the season fizzle out with second-half goals.

West Ham 2 Bournemouth 2

Two teams who cannot win both continued their dismal runs of form in a game that woke up after a truly dreadful start.

Bournemouth have now not tasted victory, except on penalties, in nine matches and any lingering hopes of making the Champions League are surely ebbing away.

And without the influential Ryan Christie, whose groin problem may force him to miss the remainder of the campaign, those hopes are almost non-existent.

At least West Ham scored two goals - they had netted only 18 in 15 home games before this - but they have won only three of Graham Potter’s 12 matches in charge.

Bournemouth led when Alphonse Areola, the West Ham goalkeeper, gifted a goal to Evanilson after 41 minutes.

But Niclas Fullkrug, the Germany striker, came off the bench to level on the hour and Jarrod Bowen, the captain, headed the home side in front after 68 minutes.

Evanilson scored his second ten minutes from time as Ireland striker Evan Ferguson watched from the bench after being taken off at half time of his first Hammers start, the 1-0 midweek defeat at Wolves.

At first Potter elected to pass over both Ferguson and Fullkrug in the starting eleven in favour of playing Jarrod Bowen as a central striker.

It was Fullkrug - with just two goals in ten appearances since his £27m move from Borussia Dortmund last summer - who got the nod when Potter made his first change after 54 frustrating minutes.

And he quickly justified that decision with a thumping header to equalise on the hour, his movement losing his marker and the power of his connection with James Ward-Prowse’s corner giving Bournemouth goalkeeper Kepa no chance.

That turned the game after Areola had failed to hold Antoine Semenyo’s low shot, presenting the ball to Evanilson.

West Ham took the lead when Bowen showed that maybe he could play the part of a number nine as he rose to nod Mohammed Kudus’ cross past Kepa.

But poor defending at a set play allowed Evanilson to prod home after Dean Huijsen had nodded across goal.
