Fellow strikers Tuncay and Mido picked up ankle and hamstring problems respectively against Sunderland on Saturday, while Jeremie Aladiere is still sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate has added young strikers Tom Craddock, 20, and 19-year-old Ben Hutchinson to his squad.

England defender Jonathan Woodgate is likely to be out with a groin niggle, Julio Arca is out for eight weeks with a knee injury, while new signing Gary O’Neil is cup-tied, so 19-year-old fellow midfielder Graeme Owens also travels.

Provisional squad: Schwarzer, Jones, Young, Davies, Riggott, Wheater, Taylor, Owens, Boateng, Cattermole, Rochemback, Shawky, Downing, Lee, Hutchinson, Craddock.
