Garry Ringrose has been ruled out of most of Ireland’s November Nations Championship window with injury.
The Leinster centre, a long-time first choice in the No.13 short for club and country, has picked up a hamstring injury and is regarded as “unlikely” for the upcoming games against Argentina, Fiji and South Africa.
He will pursue his rehabilitation with Leinster.
Jimmy O’Brien sustained a concussion against Munster at the weekend and will follow a graduated return with the aim of resuming full training later this week. The IRFU’s Tuesday missive made no mention of Tommy O’Brien who also came off injured in that game.
Sam Prendergast, who missed the six-point URC win over Munster with a wrist issue last Saturday, is progressing and will also continue his rehabilitation this week in camp. No replacements have been called up in their stead.
Andy Farrell has no shortage of centres to cover for now. Stuart McCloskey probably has first dibs on the No.12 shirt but Bundee Aki and Robbie Henshaw are both versatile midfielders and either one can line out on the outside.
Jamie Osborne is another with a number of quivers to his bow who can slot in when and where as needed while uncapped Ulster player Jamie Benson is an option in the centre and at No.10. So too is Ciaran Frawley who also offers an option at full-back.
The squad assembled in Dublin on Monday to prepare for the window which starts with the visit of Argentina to the Aviva Stadium on Friday week and will end with a final game in Twickenham against an opponent to be decided at the month’s end.
Tickets for the game against South Africa are sold out but the IRFU has come under fire for the prices of their offerings again and seats remain for the fixtures against Argentina and Fiji.
